Tacking Point Public School
Our driving question for the STEM project was How do we actively engage students in the development and production of quality design projects? The focus has been on student voice, collaboration and critical thinking. Traditionally at Tacking Point Public School we annually showcased an exhibition of Science Fair projects; this had been an isolated home-based project where there was no authenticity, technological, engineering or mathematical principles demonstrated in the experiments. Through evaluation and reflection, we acknowledged that there was a need for pedagogical shift to match future focused learning. We enabled students to become critical and creative users of digital technologies using the inquiry model of learning. Our shift in thinking and further provision of resources has enabled staff to integrate STEM principles in meaningful ways which has empowered students to create and collaborate their learning beyond the classroom.
